The Ghana cedi is trading at varying rates against major international currencies, according to the Bank of Ghana’s daily exchange rates for Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The latest figures show that the US dollar is being bought at GH¢11.0695 and sold at GH¢11.0805. This means customers looking to purchase US dollars from banks will pay slightly more than the rate at which banks buy the currency.
The British pound is recording higher values, with a buying rate of GH¢15.0556 and a selling rate of GH¢15.0717. The euro, meanwhile, is trading at a buying rate of GH¢12.9122 and a selling rate of GH¢12.9238.
According to the Bank of Ghana, these figures represent the average interbank rates used by commercial banks for transactions at the close of business on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The exchange rates provide an important reference for businesses, importers, travellers and individuals who conduct transactions involving foreign currencies. Movements in the cedi against major currencies can also influence the cost of imported goods and services, as well as international payments.
The relatively narrow gap between the buying and selling rates across the three major currencies reflects the prevailing interbank market rates at the close of the previous business day.
Market participants and businesses are expected to continue monitoring currency movements as the cedi’s performance against the dollar, pound and euro remains an important indicator for Ghana’s broader economic and financial activities.
