Four illegal miners killed after galamsey pit collapses near Gyaman-Nkwanta

Four illegal miners (galamseyers) have reportedly died after a pit collapsed at Skuumu, near Gyaman-Nkwanta in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, leaving residents in shock and sparking renewed concern over illegal mining activities in the area.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies were quickly deployed to the scene to assist with rescue and recovery operations.Ghana economic reports

All four bodies have since been retrieved from the collapsed pit and deposited at the Jacobu Government Hospital morgue.

Sources say the leader of the group has been identified as Solomon Amadevor, while the identities of the other three deceased persons are yet to be officially confirmed pending ongoing investigations.
